on the webpage it says: Microsoft Windows VMware images can be downloaded from http://www.sagemath.org/download-windows.html These should be reliable, though we do not test these prior to releasing Sage.
Use VirtualBox instead of VMware? There has been a lot of confusion about those two programs revently, but the current ova image and the docs are made and written for VirtualBox.
