I'm just throwing in my two cents. A text-only setup in the VM has many advantages. VMs tend to have a lot of overhead rendering graphics compared to performing CPU- or memory-intensive operations. By viewing the notebook on the host, basic graphics operations such as scrolling, moving windows, and especially using interactive 3D all become very smooth. A graphically-minimal VM can perform reasonably well even without the "VirtualBox Guest Additions" or "VMware Tools". The only potential disadvantage is that this is less straightforward than having Sage automatically pop up a browser inside the VM. But with sufficient notices/documentation, hopefully this will be clear enough to first-time users. > - It would be great if there was a single and up to date source of > truth for how to install Sage under windows. Volker's automated Sage VM builder is a very new development. I'm not sure whether he feels it is ready to be put into production use, but once that happens, someone will need to clean up of all the Sage-on- Windows references. The VirtualBox vs. VMware inconsistency is one problem right now. > Cheers, > Nicolas > -- > Nicolas M.
