Perhaps a very different approach is needed. One thing I feel Sage lacks is engineering applications. How about basing the applications upon building engineering applications on the top of maths software, rather than adding more maths? It may be seen by Google that their injection of money will make little difference if it just adds yet more maths skills to a project which is primarily built by mathematicians. Just a thought.
