Sweet! I'm assuming you're using a dictionary map? I think this could kill two birds with one stone. If we want to make Sage act more like GAP and consider the domain of a permutation group to be the collection of non-fixed points (I think we should consider subgroups separately), then even in the case when the generators contain integers, those integers could be dictionaried (I think that's a word) into a compacted list of integers. In that situation, 99% of the existing methods could be used.
