My plan is still to push this upstream at some point soon, with the
intention that it make it into Python 2.7/3.2. However, the release
date for 2.7 isn't even set yet -- meaning it's still quite a ways
off. Honestly, I don't recall -- what was our plan for patching this
in the interim? Or did we not decide on anything because we got
sidetracked talking about #5986?
