Ok, now it makes sense to me, let's do it as you said. Btw, here is my latest notebook+SPD+FEM (=femhub) update: http://nb.femhub.org/home/pub/28/ if you scroll down, you can see the solution, adaptively refined, convergence graph, plus a set of solutions, one per each step of the adaptivity refinement. I still need to improve the mesh to show correctly, but then it will start getting really interesting and useful. Also, when doing longer calculation, I save the .png files at each iteration and some stats using "print" and the notebook shows the stats immediately, but it only shows the .png images at the end. So that's another thing that I'd like to improve to transfer all changed files immediately, so that the user can see the images once they are produced. Together with this: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html it all makes perfect sense to me to be able to do *everything* in the notebook.
