For what it is worth, sage-4.0.2 does build fine on bsd.math. That's
where I build all the OS X 10.5 intel binaries.    Since you didn't
actually post anything useful form the error message below, it is hard
to diagnose.   Maybe you could look a little more closely?  I bet you
have something funny with your environment settings.

You could also get my build from

/Users/was/build/sage-4.0.2

(say from the dist directory).
