It must be machine specific to some extent. I had no problems on my laptop which is a lot smaller tha Bill's machine.
I got it to finish by putting the command inside a bash loop. And then discovered that Bill's machine (clearly a Serious Computer) doesn't have a web browser anyway, and cannot (it seems) be connected to by an external browser. So it look as if I'll need to do my documentation patching on another machine anyway. When will rc3 be out (since my desktop still has alpha0 and my laptop is at home)?
