Hmmm, looking at that log file (thanks for posting it!) there is another possibility (than a "dying hard drive or bad memory") --- we have had seen such "internal compiler errors" in case the CPU overheats. The line "Target: i486-linux-gnu" posted above supports this assumption --- I fear it would be difficult to successfully compile a Linux kernel on that machine, too?!
But then the compile runs hardly ever could be trusted ... any chance to use a precompiled Sage binary?
