I followed sequentially all of the package instructions as posted
here:

http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/jsp/SPKGS/ETS/

ending with

./sage -i -m ets-3.1.1.rev23241

and got everything installed.   During this sequential install I hit -
dev snags and had
to apt-get dev packages for tk8.5, python-gtk2, and libXtst.   Note
that I got them
for my Ubuntu system and not for the sage-3.4 path.   I posted earlier
about how I
had to apt-get python-dev for Ubuntu for some other package.

So I'm up and running with sage-3.4 and the March 17, 2009 version of
ETS.
Good job, ETS is a welcome addition.
