Interesting.  Which packages were these?

Sage includes its own copy of Python and is not supposed to interact
with the system Python at all, so this is surprising, and probably a
bug.  For example, such packages might not work on OSX, where, IIRC,
Sage's python is not ABI-compatible to the system Python.
