To make my comment somewhat clearer: I did not mean the removal of
lisp based code in Sage in general, but from the supported, standard
components. I.e. having interfaces to Maxima, Axiom [or FriCAS or
OpenAxiom] is desirable, but I do not believe those should be in the
core of Sage. If one person is willing to maintain an interface and an
optional spkg for $CAS Sage should support that. But it is quite
different to make it a core component since that requires build
support and also the ability on our end to potentially fix things. So
far there is insufficient expertise to deal with code in Axiom or
Maxima IMHO.

Thanks. I am aware of that fact. Indeed, I walked away from a
financially potentially much more lucrative project. So: What is my
motivation to work for Sage? It is fun and as long as I can pay my
bills I will always chose the more fun project. Another aspect is also
that decisions are made on technical merit and in the open. One of the
reasons I have walked away from the last two jobs I help was precisely
because my technical recommendations were ignore.
