In about two weeks we might have a first version of a Sage toolchain,
which is a fully automated build of most tools involved in the Sage
build process. I am developing it primarily for my Solaris port of
Sage, but it might also com in handy for Linux distributions with
crappy toolchains.

That might be fixable without the need to update to a new compiler. So
please give us some info on the gcc used so I can try to fix it.
