The latest version of sage 1.4 installed fine on kanotix 64-bit, suse 
10.1 64-bit,
and ubuntu 32 bit.

To install gap, gp, singular, etc., scripts
in a standard bin directory, start sage and
type e.g., install_scripts('/usr/local/bin')
at the command prompt.
