Now that I understand the variables get cleared after the if statement I'm configuring two files under the /etc/rsyslog.d/ folder with a numeric value at the end of a file.
The first file has the email template config with the pattern I'm looking for to send an email and the second file with a higher numeric value at the end of the file has the same template config with a different pattern I'm looking for and this method appears to be working fine and I'm getting the emails for each pattern as it gets logged in syslog. I'm not sure if this is the best practice or the most effective method to get the email across but it works. If you can send me a link to better understand the if rules and how I can chain multiple events together that would be great and provide an opinion if this method is a good approach.
