Hello François, With interest I saw your message. My experience with publishing articles containing crystallography is similar: in most cases they are rejected already by the editor, without passing through a review. Crystallography seems to be a negative keyword.
For myself, I've been voting against crystallography as a point of merit in peer evaluations, but this referred to single crystal structure solution of bis-bis diphenylidene... and the like, the typical compounds which are synthesized in thousands and then put in the automatic program and if a solution is found, this is pretended to be a point for career, if not, many other bis-bis... are waiting for solution. But this is not crystallography. My last experience is breathtaking, however. I sent a crystallographic comment on a paper which had appeared in a very respected journal to make clear an obvious error which could have been avoided by a thorough review. Two reviewers agreed very much with my comment, but the editor rejected publishing the comment, and sent it instead to the authors inviting them to produce an errata corrige. Is this the fate of crystallography in modern times? I dropped a question in researchgate about the case, you can find it under Can an “errata corrige“ be published without mentioning the comment which asked for it? and leave your comment if you like! Thanks for your efforts to help crystallography getting recognized!
