University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg XRD Postdoctoral Research Fellows (2014)
Two new postdoctoral research fellowships have become available in a research project relating to the use of non-routine powder diffraction in solid state chemistry and material science – broadly entitled. “Modelling of in situ measured PXRD data from functional materials”. The project work will mostly involve the investigation of structure – property – phase relationships of interest in selected energy / environment related materials with potential for use in batteries or gas capture and storage applications. There is also scope for explorative work involving photovoltaic materials. The successful candidate will be primarily associated with the XRD facility consisting of 4 modern diffractometers each optimised for particular types of measurements and associated with a range of peripherals. In particular there are four different systems for performing non-ambient or in situ PXRD measurements with a total temperature range from 80K to in excess of 2000K. In addition to the substantial VT-XRD infrastructure, capabilities include XRR, •-XRD, lab based PDF as well as stress and texture measurements.
