What software is used to convert neutron data in *.bt1 format to any
commonly used format, e.g. GSAS?

Some years ago I used CMPR by Brian Toby. The program has been updated
several times since then but still seems to maintain the ability to read
.bt1 files.

Not quite so simple, alas. The current CMPR as distributed (see https://subversion.xor.aps.anl.gov/trac/CMPR/ ) can read .bt1 files, but will provide 32 short scans, one for each detector. To convert the files to a pseudo 1-D scan you need the proprep & gformat programs, which can be run manually or from inside CMPR. Those programs can be found on ftp://www.ncnr.nist.gov/pub/cryst/bt1data/process/ . The much older distributions of CMPR still on the NCNR site (but not for much longer, I hope) probably includes gformat and proprep.

The easiest option is to get the merged files from the folks at NIST. The BT1 files were never intended for outside distribution.
