Even the demo database of ICSD-for-WWW contains some useful references
( http://barns.ill.fr/dif/icsd/ ) eg type "orthofer" in the title box and "Fe O"
in the elements box. You can also search the American Mineralogy Society's
database following the link given on the above page.
I agree with the comments of Brian Toby that the cost of these databases
depends on how many are willing to subscribe. (The crystal data may be
"free" but some-one has to collect and distribute it). The good news is that
all UK users will soon have access to the full ICSD-for-WWW database at
Daresbury (49,095 entries), and negotiations for Swiss and Spanish
access is underway (all Netherland users already have full access).
We ourselves also subscribe to the Cambridge Organic Database, which
does not cost less than the Inorganic database:-)
