I don't think we should have patches for lots of apps for libnotify until the current discussion about notification in GNOME comes to some sort of conclusion. I agree notification of the current song is a very useful thing though, hopefully we'll get the notification situation sorted out for GNOME 2.12 or at the worst 2.14...
