I had this problem. I think I ended up uninstalling openssl-0.9.5a and then installing openssl095a-0.9.5a and then installing openssl-0.9.6 and ignored any warnings. The other option is to only install openssl-0.9.6 and manually create the older symbolic links (I tried this and IIRC it worked).
