I have been using RH 7 on my Toshiba portege 7020 laptop now for some
weeks. I have experienced sudden deaths of some applications. Sometimes,
literally out of the blue, an application will just die, with no error
message or core file. Nothing is reported by syslog either. This
has happened with StarOffice, Netscape navigator 4.76, everybuddy
(a chat client) and konsole. When konsole dies, it also takes with
it any applications started in there, like my email client mutt,
or fetchmail. And sometimes, when I suspend the system, and wake it
up again, the display is just blank - there is disk activity, but no
display. I have no choice but to reboot, and risk losing files due to
an unclean shutdown. I use KDE 1.2 (the default that comes with RH7)
as my desktop. This problem is very annoying because sometimes I have
to start my work all over again. I previously used RH 6.2, and I never
experienced such crashes, and when they occasionally happened, they
were SO or Netscape and left core files. I can understand them dying, as
they are big monoliths and quite buggy, but now even things like konsole
and everybuddy are dying. I am familiar with using debugging tools like
strace, but in this case, I don't even know where to start looking for
a problem, as it is apparently, quite random. My system has 128 MB of RAM.

Has anyone experienced such random crashes, and if so, any known
solutions? My system is updated with the latest RPMs. I almost regret
moving to RH 7 now, because the 6.2 system was so stable.
