No, That is incorrect. My comment was mearly to reinforce the
usefulness of the kernel upgrade howto. I do not have a Dell 2450 but I
do have a Inspiron 3500 laptop and have had zero problems following the
kernal howto to the letter. The key IMHO is doing rpm -ivh rather than
rpm -Uvh. This installs the kernel alongside the old one so that you
can boot into either using lilo.
I have not been following this thread all that closely. What are the
symptoms of your problem? Can you no longer boot into the old kernel?
what do you get when you hit the tab key at the LILO prompt before it
starts booting?
