Look for "DefaultColorDepth" entries in /etc/X11/XF86Config and change these
to 16, 24 or 32. You need the according "Depth" entries for the same value as
well. Note that some cards don't handle 32 bpp well, others like 32 bpp better
than 24 bpp.
