I recompiled the kernel with all the fat/vfat/msdos/advanced partition
support options. Then reboot and voila - everything works! :)
I had done the above before but I compiled it as modules and depmod/insmod
brought tons of dependency errors. Compiling it within the kernel seemed to
solve to problem.
