I tried the NVIDIA_kernel-0.9-5.rh7rc2.i386.rpm but that was for a different 
minor kernel version than what shipped with Red Hat 7 and hence the module 
wouldn't load.

I finally used the SRPM and got the kernel module compiled and installed, 
ripped out the old libGL stuff as per nVidia's instructions and loaded the 
GLX RPM.

In one way it worked better since the screen corruption stopped but X would 
hang the computer solid after about 10 minutes of use.
At least with the old drivers I could use the system even if the screen did 
become garbled.

Unfortunately that howto was done using the GeForce video cards but I was 
having problems with a Riva TNT 2 card...
