That's the way I found em.  In /etc/X11 there were the two files XF86Config 
and XF86Config-4.

Nope.  Just a standard RH7.0 install on a single headed workstation.

Well I defined the other resolutions so I could run VMware in full screen 
mode in those resolutions without the black border.  But I find I run it more 
in windowed mode anyway so maybe I'll just go back to having 1024 at 16bpp 
only.

I managed to get the 0.9-5 nVidia drivers loaded, the NVIDIA-kernel through 
SRPM and the NVIDIA-glx through normal RPM.  The display *is* better but 
after about 10 minutes the screen glitches and X locks up completely.

After playing with libraries etc I think I've really screwed it now so going 
to reinstall RH7 and have another go...
