Paul:

I have set up INN 1.7 and INN 2.1 with an ISP I owed at one time. I used
a push feed method via our backbone at ATT Worldnet. The first thing you
need to do is subscribe to the news group news.software.nntp. All the
answers are there you just need to ask. If your new to INN this will be
a 1 week project unless you plan on spending 24 hours a day for for a
few days. INN can be mind numbing to say the least but these guys in
this group especially Russ Allbery from Stanford Univ. know it and are
very helpful. There was also a site called http://www.mibsoftware.com
that was very helpful to me in getting all this setup. I believe the
service was $20.00/month but was well worth the minimal charge in
getting INN up and going. I set my INN config up on a RH 6.0 server and
I used a fresh tar package rather than trying to configure INN that
comes with 6.0. Unless things have changed I would do that also as I
found the INN that is setup on the installation of RH 6.0 to be more
geared towards the client side and not the server/feeder side. Also I
believe INN 2.3 is out now and the latest with INN is usually also the
easiest to configure. You will need a high capacity machine with a lot
of memory. I believe they recommend at least 256 meg (Ram) and depending
on the number of newsgroups you plan on running you will need at least
20 to 30 gig of drive space. To run all newsgroups with a 14 day expire
I believe takes approx. 100 gig because of all the binaries. I was able
to get away with 20 gig but I ran no binaries. I just ran the big 8. If
you run into any obstacles along the way give me an e-mail as I most
likely hit the same road block. This should hopefully get you going.

Hope this helps,
