I have no idea what is going on with your second entry.  But, you are
definately missing a couple of routes.

Bring up X as a regular user.  In an Xterm, enter "xhost +".  The "su -"
to become root and then run "netcfg".

Check the first tab and make sure the names are correct.

Check the second tab and make sure that is correct.  For me the only entries
are the localhost and my fully qualified system name, with domain.

The third tab should have entries for lo and eth0.  The entries should be:

        eth0 - IP address - none - yes - active

The fourth tab should have the IPv4 forwarding set, your gateway machine IP
in the gateway box and eth0 in the gateway device.

Save those entries and reboot the system.

What does ifconfig -a and netstat -nr now report?
