Try Red Hat 6.2
The X Windows configuration is MUCH IMPROVED!
You still may have problems, but there's a much better chance of it working
without too much messing around.
RH 6.2 has just been released out on the Net for network installs or
download of CD image. Retail boxed sets won't show up until about April 10
or so.
Definitely waiting for before you give up!
Also, we don't know what you told it for Monitor type or card configuration
on at least two of the machines. You might be a bit more specific if you
want some specific help.
But, more general advice:
you can always try:
"Generic Multisync monitor" (or "Generic Monitor" is just a plain VGA)
just to get it to work. Sometimes, specifying sync rates, etc is just too
much.
Most important general advice: wait for 6.2, since you'll be able to get
it soon.
Also, do you know how to start up into "single-user mode" for system
administration, without X-Windows starting up, so that you can configure
on a system that is "locking up"? (LILO: linux single)
