My $.02 worth...
While I have NOT played with the EXP-10e or any of the EXP series, for the
most part SCSI autochangers do not automatically switch tapes for you...
... at least in the realm of those I have played with (I.E. HP, etc.).
When a "load" command is received from the SCSI initiator, it WILL however
insert a new tape, normally the next in the queue... so if the tape software
ejects a tape when full, backups can continue when a new load command is
issued... to most people, this appears as if the tape changer is
automatically inserting the next tape... it is not.
Normally the tape changers themselves appear to be another SCSI device.
Commands are sent to the tape changer to cycle, sense, register, etc. or
other tape functions.
SOooo. in all likelyhood, unless your tape software is specifically writtent
to handle changers (or has a module available to enable this) don't expect
changer support.

Subject: Exabyte tape libraries
Anyone have any experience with a EXP-10e or EXP-10h tape library? Will
it automatically switch tapes for you, or can it be controlled via
software? I'm only interested if it can be used without manual
intervention. Under Linux of course.
Does $400 for the 10e sound like a good deal for a used one? How about
$900 for the 10h (used)?
thanks
