Hi,
Any printing experts out there? :-)
I am trying to setup remote printing between two PCs in a local network.
But I'm failing. :-)
Both PCs run RH6.1.
What happens is that on the workstation I print to the defined queue,
but all print jobs (ASCII or PostScript) remain on the queue 'for ever'
where 'for ever' is at least > hours. :-)
I can print with no problem on the print server to the local printer.
I have used the KDE tool klpq V1.0 to look upon the queues in both
machines. As you may see below, the print queues are defined using
printtool V3.41.
Here is the /etc/printcap from the print server PC. It has the printer
attached to the local printer port.
##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL ljet2p 300x300 a4 {} LaserJet2p Default 1
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:lp=/dev/lp0:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:
Here is the /etc/printcap from the workstation PC.
##PRINTTOOL3## REMOTE ljet2p 300x300 a4 {} LaserJet2p Default 1
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:rm=valhall.ygdrasil.com:\
:rp=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:
klpq on the workstation claims that it's
"waiting for the queue to be enabled on valhall.ygdrasil.com".
When logged in on the workstation, I can both ping and nslookup the
print server. Using either the IP address or the network name.
What more can I add? Well, I am logged in as root on the workstation
when I try to print from there through the network to the printer on the
print server.
Anything more I should provide to make the diagnose easier?
Any hints or ideas will be much appreciated.
Best regards
Gustav
