Another handy man reference:

man smb.conf

And some handy commands are:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb restart

Restart comes in handy when you change the /etc/smb.conf file. I found
samba to be already running on my RH 5.1 box. It allowed home directory
access by default. To add more directories, change options, etc. you have
to edit the smb.conf file. There are plenty of examples on your system
already.
