I'm looking to purchase a PCI based SCSI Ultra-Wide SCSI controler, but seem to
have trouble finding a suitable card. I looked at the supported hardware list,
but it does not indicate which cards are wide SCSI. Although certain supported
chipsets are listed, it is not very easy determing which cards use them.
I ordered a Mylex (BusLogic) BT-950, but have had nothing but problems with
it. The BIOS will not load on the card. Mylex says that the problem is with
the 440 chipset on my motherboard. I had to load the latest BIOS on the
controler, but still have the problem. I even tried the card on a different
system that doesn't have the same chipset and continue to get the same error.
I plan on returning the card unless Mylex can provide assistance.
It appears that Linux 5.0 hasn't kept up-to-date on the supported SCSI
controlers. It is difficult to find cards that still have some of the older
chipsets. I believe that my choices are down to an adaptec 2940UW (that may
work), an NCR 53C8xx based controler (that may work with specific kernels and
patches), or an older NCR controler.
Can anyone suggest a different PCI based Ultra Wide SCSI?
