I have also had failed installation with Red Hat 5.0...if you've seen my
recent messages to this list, you'll know that. Someone else from newsgroup
alt.os.linux, also has error readouts trying to install Linux, and then it
aborts. My suspicion is a bad batch of distribution CD-ROMs...and I'm glad
you brought up this conjecture, too.

If you have missed my postings regarding my own problems installing Red
Hat, here they are once more:

My system is a DOS 7.0 PC with 120MHz Pentium, 96MB RAM. I am trying
to install Red Hat Linux 5.0 on my Master Hard Drive, via Red Hat's CD-ROM.

Here is my present Master Hard Drive map (in a system with three hard
drives):

C: 300 MB...DOS /dev/hda1

/root = 120 MB /dev/hda2
/usr = 1300 MB /dev/hda3

F: 350 MB...DOS /dev/hda5
G: 350 MB...DOS /dev/hda6

(The logical DOS drives are "F:" and "G:", since I have two other hard
drives connected, using up the following letters: "D:", "E:" and "H:".)

I also excluded a swap partition, since I already have a copious 96 MB RAM.
I have just two Linux partitions: "/root" and "/usr".

I have finally managed to kludge my way through setting up and
mounting partitions for Red Hat Linux. Then I began the installation,
which came up with a pile of errors before aborting. The majority of
programs did install...but not enough to allow a true bootup into
Linux. Any suggestions on how to overcome these error results, will
be greatly appreciated.

Here they are:

--end list of errors

I may have some typos there...as I had to handwrite everything down,
that was on the screen. So I'd also like to know if there is a way to
either print out screen text, or capture to a file. Seems that DOS
capture programs or the PrintScreen are not operable in the Linux
installation.

What kind of problems are indicated by statement: "exection of script
failed", "unpacking of archive ailed", and "read failed: Input/output error
(5)"?
