Boy, did I have high hopes for your tip, Igmar.  I really couldn't figure
why things would crash with the HD scanning step *if* my only 2 IDE hard
drives were listed (when I first shut off both the Zip and Jaz and
terminated on the scanner).

But disabling both in the BIOS didn't get me past my problem.  Argh.

Other people have commented on these occasional Signal 11 errors, but
apparently  not during the install.

Completely frustrating.
