On that note, i want to do the same...
are there any easier alternatives to sendmail that are easier to set
up, and
still reliable?

Just :
mail IN A 111.222.333.444 ; IP_Address of Mail
Server
Just??? Your only adding an address record for your mail server.
You will
also need to add the MX record for your domain as Mark Foster has
shown.
/etc/mail/local-host-names: #domain_name_of _your_mail_server
Why the # sign. Using your example, your basically creating an
empty
local-host-names file.

*** This would be typically a question that has been answered by the Sendmail HOWTO at Linux doc. Please read some of it - sendmail
server
setup's are not for the faint of heart, especially not with all the
spam
and viruse flying over the net - because you need to understand the
basics
and then dive into it. I don't think the 3 mails posted here are
enough to
setup a serious mail server which will NOT be hacked or used as an
open
relay within minutes of it going on line. Take the security issue
seriously
before putting sendmail on-line.
