Once you get passed the somewhat steep learning curve, it'll be smooth
sailing. It took me about a month to learn the basics of UNIX/Linux to
where I could accomplish everything I could in the DOS/Windows world and
another month to learn how to do things I could have never done in
DOS/Windows. Many of the DOS commands have a similar UNIX command:
DOS UNIX
--- ----
dir ls
copy cp
del rm
mkdir mkdir
cd cd
etc...
Also, the 'man' command will explain just about anything you need to know
about a command (or program). Once your all set up, and sitting at at a
prompt, type 'man man' for information on how to use the man command.
If you need any help, feel free to email me off the list and I'll see if I
can't get you started :)
Good Luck!!

Linux is user friendly. It's just selective about who its friends are.
