If what you say is true (which I don't doubt at all), then something
else is causing all the support issues with the Adaptec controllers
(not so much with the 2940's though). I just refuse to use them based
on some of my experiences in my lab with them. They just seem to be
very picky about getting recognized by the kernel.

I'll poke around for the name of the person at Adaptec that has said
they want to correct their driver deficiency in Linux. Please remind
me if you don't hear from me this week sometime.
