If you use one of the journalled filesystems (EXT3, JFS, XFS) you might
be okay, depending on how the machines are being used.  If there are
applications running that haven't saved their data, journalling doesn't
help.  IMO, you're asking for trouble.

Why can't you shut them down remotely (using ssh), or at a specified
time (from cron)?  In fact, why shut them down at all?  Or are you just
asking about doing it one time?
