I'm never use sendmail, but this may help.

Did you use smart relay or use dns to deliver mails?

from linux machine, try to send mail with:
mailx -v [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and see the output.
You may also check the logs, usualy sendmail was depends hevily on dns, so
make sure youre setup/user correct dns server.

hmm, im using exchange many years but never have problem with mail being
delayed by exch :=)

try to test by telneting directly to exch svr (ie. telnet exch.svr.com 25 )
