May be that your disk drive is getting a little fragmented.

The "quietness" of a drive depends on the case it's mounted in and how
well it is mounted. Some cases operate as an amplifier for every little
'click' of the hard drive :-(. It may be that it's not making as much noise
as you think, but, rather, your case is amplifying what noise it makes.
