Yes, and then the web came along and offered a better method of providing 
information. We still provide ls-lR files as well as offering a query only 
version of rpm (> site exec rpm -qip some.rpm). However, the number of RPMs 
and the maintenance of current versions and the 15 different types of 
information that people want don't lend themselves to us offering much more on 
the ftp site. We are rebuilding our web site and it will have all of this 
information.

You can do all of this with wget.
