Ah, come on -- that's a little harsh. Before the web came along, FTP
sites provided information like this all the time. Files like 'ls-lR'
and ".lsm" and "README" files were put up all the time to give the
FTPer a little help in deciding if the file was interesting. My shell
script just uses a feature of the 'rpm' command to totally automate
providing good information like these files had.

Besides, it should be a minor adaptation to my script to slap a set of
HTML commands around the outputs of the RPM commands and produce
RPM_HTML files to go with the RPM_INFO files. Then collect the
RPM_HTML files into the web-server's directory and you're web site for
providing this "specific information" is automated as well.

I don't know about others, but I'd prefer my RPM_INFO files to doing
web searches. I could build an automated FTP to grab the MASTER_INDEX
at regular intervals and peruse/search it in my own fashion on my
machine when I want. I could even have an automated script scan the
INDEX for RPMs mentioning specific words or phrases. The web searches
are still useful for the uninitiated, but there's no need to limit
your view.
