After doing some more checking in the Redhat distributions, I saw that the amd
package has been replaced by the autofs package. I removed amd and installed
the autofs which is in 5.1 (vers. 3.x.x).
After reading the manual pages and setting up the config files, I can run
autofs start, and it will call /usr/sbin/automount with the appropriate
arguments.
However, after doing so, there is no automount daemon running ("ps aux | fgrep
auto" returns nothing) and an access to the directories which should automount
shows them empty.
There is no diagnostic flag for checking automount, so I find I'm at a loss as
to how to diagnose the problem.
Anyone have experience with the autofs package? I could put the config files
up to the list, but I think there might be something more obvious that I'm
missing first...
Thanks for your help.
