have you installed portmap and is it started? I guess you have ( you
should have portmap-4.0). then look
at your /etc/hosts.allow and hosts.deny files, usually the host that runs
portmap is always considered authorized to connect to portmap so check if
you somewhere deny acess to your localhost. This is unlikely but strange
things happen.
