Okay, I give up.
What, execatly, do I need to do to get the latest rawhide (or fisher) to
work the smtp authentication over ssl (or even *not* over ssl).
I can get AUTH to respond:

So sendmail is responding (this is after changing redhat's default
/etc/mail/sendmail.mc), but Netscape 4.x won't authenticate.
