I asked if it was GPL compatible.  If it is, or if any software
is, then yes, I _can_ take the code, modify it, and release my
work as GPL.  BSD licensed code is a perfect example.

Sure, you can take the BSD code out of my code and use it BSD
licensed, but you can't take the collective work that I GPL'd and
use it all as BSD code.
