Are you sure that this wasn't also happening with your original kernel?

Edit /etc/hosts to create some *proper* entries for your local host
IPs addresses, they try again.
They totally stuffed up the default /etc/hosts that the installer
gives you in rh6.x, and it sounds like they are still doing the same
thing with rh7. Unless there are other sub-system changes to things
like nsswitch or whatever...

Almost certainly unresolvable local host names.
