Beleive none of what you hear and only half of what you see.
>From the outside looking in it would seem RedHat along with
all other distributions, is looking at a significant change
with the ever delayed 2.4 kernel release. I would think RedHat
could not put off indefinately another release (was 6.3 an option?)
soon or later the jump needs to be made and now is as good a
time as any to make that leap. I am assuming with the advent
of 2.4.0 will come a new, and well prepared for, release with
gcc 3.x as the compiler.

Needless to say, e-press, like any other media looks a sensationalism
to grab an audience. Headlines like "Forking 2.96 gcc packaged
with RedHat causes earthquakes in baby hospital" do nothing for
sane people.

Lets face it, if you don't like it, don't use it.
As mentioned before I am on the outside looking in. Perhaps
this was a mistake and lessons will be learned from it.
Perhaps it is part of a bigger picture, what ever it is,
it is released, now we just have to live with it.
If all the energy expended whining about it was direct
at solutions, then what a wonderful RedHat world we would
live in.

I also like the direction of RedHat and have used it for
many years and will continue to follow its evolution
